Poinsettias,locally known as Lalupate (Nepali) in Darjeeling, are traditional Christmas flowering plants that lasts throughout the Christmas season. Poinsettia is indigenous to Mexico and Central America where they call it 'Taxco del Alarcon'. In Mexico and Guatemala as Flor de Noche Buena, meaning Christmas Eve Flower. Particularly well known for its red and green foliage and is widely used in Christmas floral displaysThe Poinsettia flower is actually a special types of leaves known as bracts rather than being flowers.
Poinsettia Care
For maximum plant life, place your poinsettia near a sunny window Or Some other well-lighted areas Do not let any part of the plant touch cold window panes. Poinsettias are tropical plants and are usually grown at temperatures between 60 and 70 degrees F in greenhouses, so this temperature range ill the home is best for long plant life. High temperatures will shorten the file of the bracts Poinsettias do no[ tolerate warm or cold drafts so keep them away from radiators, air registers, and fans as well as open windows or doors. Place your poinsettia in a cooler room at night (55 to 60 degrees F is ideal) to extend the blooming time.
Examine the soil daily and water only when it feels dry. Always water enough to soak the soil to the bottom of the pot and discard the excess water. If you don't water enough, the plant will wilt mid the lower leaves will drop. If you water too much the lower leaves will yellow and then drop.

Phyllostachys nigra, or Black Bamboo, is a giant grass characterized by large woody stems that is native to Southern China. Plants spread by very vigorous rhizomes and it is considered a running form of bamboo. In nature,
Black Bamboo will reach 25 feet (>7.6 m) tall and the stem at maturity will reach 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter. Clumps can become very large if left uncontrolled. The stems start out green and become speckled, changing to brownish or purplish black at maturity. Leaves are medium green, 6 inches (15 cm) long and about 1/2 to 1 inch (1.25-2.5 cm) wide. In containers, it make an outstanding looking plant, but due to the vigorous growth they will outgrow most containers in a couple of years. Black Bamboo is seen to break ceramic pots with their rhizomes. In the landscape, they make great hedge plant, but be careful about controlling their roots. It is hardy in the landscape in USDA zones 8-10.
